A Word in your Ear
This week I’m publishing the letter I received from Brother Brian Johnson who preached at all masses last weekend. He was very impressive and your generous response to him and his work speaks for itself. Fr. Martin
Dear Fr. Martin and Parishioners,
Greetings of peace and love to all.
Thank you so very much for the great welcome you gave me when I visited you last weekend. The reception you gave me is a great affirmation of the work we do among some of the poorest people on earth. Your kindness and generosity in these most difficult times is a wonderful boost for all of us but especially for the Brothers working in Kenya and Uganda. To know that you are willing to sacrifice and pray for us, gives us encouragement when the going gets tough. Your prayers are a special source of inspiration. Sometimes we encounter problems that are beyond human solving and it is then we depend on your prayers and the power of a loving God. I have little to offer you for your great kindness and generosity except to let you know that you are remembered in the daily prayers of the brothers. You and your families are also remembered with a small fast and a climb of Croagh Patrick. We will be good guardians of the huge trust you have placed in us. We will use efficiently, effectively and wisely the resources you have so generously given to us.
May the Good Lord and St. Francis of Assisi bless and reward your great kindness and generosity.
Peace

LEARNING ABOUT THE MASS WITH KATH AND QUMEN
THE ALTAR
Another word for altar is table. The altar table is in the centre of the part of God’s house that we call the sanctuary. Sanctuary means ‘holy’ and this is indeed a holy place. The servers prepare the altar. They put the following on the altar:
The corporal a square-shaped white cloth on which the paten and chalice are placed.
The Roman Missal the book from which the priest reads the prayers.
The purificators small white towels which are used to clean the chalice and paten later in the Mass.
Pilstock 2012 Fundraising Quiz
A fundraising quiz will be held in Anthony’s Inn on Friday, March 30 at 8pm to raise funds for the charity Chernobyl Children. Pilstock is taking place on June 30 this year & there will be 50 Children from Chernobyl there on the day. As per last year a great day’s family & musical entertainment is guaranteed. More to follow at a later date.
