In his opening address the Principal, Paul Duggan, stressed that this was one of the most important days in the school calendar. It acknowledges achievements in the academic, social and sporting life of the school and all areas that contribute to developing responsible citizens. The keynote speaker was Dr. Lucy Hearne, a past pupil of the school and currently a Lecturer in the University of Limerick. She recalled her days in the school and the economic prospects that prevailed when she completed them. Similar prospects are evident to school leavers today, but opportunities still exist. She emphasised that education enhanced these opportunities and learning is a lifelong process that can be accessed anytime to improve prospects. She went on to congratulate them on their achievements and wished everyone well for the future.
