COSTING NO LESS THAN EVERYTHING
Sometimes love costs no less than everything. Parents know this in bringing up children in love; and then it costs a lot to let them go, as they make their way through life, finding their own feet, forming their own families. And the love of God opens the door to people who are poor; if we fail to recognise the poor in our world we are missing God. And we know that a passion for wealth can close us off from other people as we fail to see their needs and get into competition with them. The call of the Lord is to give of ourselves for others, even when it hurts; and into a love which shares with those who are poor. His love calls us, and when we live in this love of giving and receiving, we are the most blessed of people.

Journeying through the Scriptures in Advent
A series of talks organised by the parishes of Ferrybank, Slieverue, Glenmore and Rosbercon aimed at making Advent a more meaningful time of spiritual preparation leading to a more fruitful celebration of Christmas. The opening talk will be given on November 26 in Glenmore Parish Hall at 8.00pm. The speaker will be Dr. Tom Norris D.D. an Ossory priest who was Professor of Theology for many years in St. Kieran’s College Seminary and has been Professor of Theology in St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth for 25 years. Presently Fr. Norris who is well published, is serving on the International Pontifical Theological Commission, advising his Holiness Pope Benedict.
Dr. Michael Mullins will speak in Ferrybank Parish Centre on December 2, Slieverue Parish Centre on December 10 and The Albatross Hall, Rosbercon on December 17 (all at 8.00pm.) Dr. Mullins is presently in his first months as P.P. of Ballybricken, having taught scriptures in Maynooth for many years and was on the staff of St John’s Seminary prior to that. He has published three commentaries on the evangelists as well as many other articles.
These talks are open to all and there is no attendance charge.
