THE WINGS OF LOVE
We have four main relationships – to ourselves, others, the world and God. We tend to act the same in each area. If we are critical and resentful towards others, we will be critical towards God, and will probably find it hard to be accepting of ourselves.
Most of our suffering comes from refusing to accept things as they are. We have great plans for God, we know exactly what we should do and we get annoyed when he does not comply! We know what our family should do, but they do not do it. We have high expectations of ourselves and are frustrated when we do not measure up.
Perhaps love – charity – can begin at home by learning to be at ease with our imperfect selves. Then we can become more tolerant of our family’s foibles and increase in respect for our fragile world.
