24th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, September 11, 2011

Cherish the gift:
This day with its blessing and challenges is a gift from God, so don’t insult him with complaining. “Do all that has to be done without complaining or arguing, then you will be innocent and genuine, perfect children of God and you will shine in the world like bright stars, because you are offering it the word of life” (Phil 2:14)

A Service of Remembrance for the 10th anniversary of Sept 11 will take place on Sunday, Sept 11 at the City Hall, Kilkenny, at 7pm. The service is hosted by Mayor David Fitzgerald. Bishop Freeman and members of the various churches will lead the prayer service. Music will be provided by the Kilkenny Gospel Choir and St. Patrick's Brass Band. All Welcome.

Congratulations and well done to the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Team. You did us proud and we are proud of you. Thank you for the many hours of joy and hope that you bring to us, as you entertain us with your skill and enthusiasm for the game.

Over the last few months, the Sunday collections have fallen a lot. Guess it is understandable in the present climate. However, it has come to our notice, there is sometimes one or two collections on the way in and that some people stand in the gateway. I wish to take this opportunity to remind all those who collect outside the church that the law states “that collections will not be taken up within a distance of twenty meters of all entrances to church property” (Collection Act 1962). We, the finance committee, ask all collectors to observe this legal requirement and that all collections taking place would be published on the grapevine the week before. Our insurance bill for Sept 2011 - 2012 this year comes to €7,223.09. Costs are going up every month. While we think globally we have to act locally. Thanking you in anticipation for your co-operation in relation to those matters.
