Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, February 15, 2009

God, Our Father, Give Us!
Give us, ever patient God, that Spirit
which can endure delay,
and bear suffering,
and never give in.

To endure delay,
yet live through each moment with confidence,
and not lose heart,
nor allow the vision of the better times to fade.

To bear suffering,
yet not be broken by it,
and not be overcome by bitterness,
nor find faith fall short.

And never give in,
yet not to bear a grudge
and not to live, grim faced, stiff lipped,
nor show pride in enduring.

But rather, by your Spirit, point us to Jesus our Lord who, through temptations, injustice, hardship and opposition patiently bore your perfect will with loving kindness and with constant hope.

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, February 08, 2009

THE WINGS OF LOVE
We have four main relationships – to ourselves, others, the world and God. We tend to act the same in each area. If we are critical and resentful towards others, we will be critical towards God, and will probably find it hard to be accepting of ourselves.
Most of our suffering comes from refusing to accept things as they are. We have great plans for God, we know exactly what we should do and we get annoyed when he does not comply! We know what our family should do, but they do not do it. We have high expectations of ourselves and are frustrated when we do not measure up.
Perhaps love – charity – can begin at home by learning to be at ease with our imperfect selves. Then we can become more tolerant of our family’s foibles and increase in respect for our fragile world.

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, January 25, 2009

May God make your year a happy one!Not by shielding you from all sorrows and pain,But by strengthening you to bear it, as it comes; Not by making your path easy,But by making you sturdy to travel any path; Not by taking hardships from you,But by taking fear from your heart; Not by granting you unbroken sunshine,But by keeping your face bright, even in the shadows; Not by making your life always pleasant,But by showing you when people and their causes need you most, and by making you anxious to be there to help.God’s love, peace, hope and joy to you for the year ahead.

Have you ever felt ‘I don’t know how to pray’? Saying prayers is great but is there another way? How would I really like to pray? Would you like to deepen your prayer life?
In what we call Siol meetings we take time off to reflect on God’s story which is our story too. We let the Spirit guide us into knowing, loving and following Christ. We do this by reflecting and praying on the Bible. This will certainly help in coping with the ups and downs of life.
Chris and Sr. Mary will be available to support you in getting to know the Lord better. For those of you who are interested there will be an introductory session in the Nagle Chapel on next Tuesday morning at 9.45am.
