FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, January 31, 2010

I want to express my deep gratitude for the great solidarity you have shown towards the earthquake victims in my country and for your very generous assistance to me, so that I may complete my studies and return home quickly.
Haiti used to be a place of dreams: white beaches, clear seas and untouched green fertile mountains. Now tragically, to the world, it looks like a huge open cemetery. Before the earthquake we were on the brink of disaster as a result of an unlimited number of problems (social, economic, political, etc...), now however, we must also face the devastating effects of the events of January 12 . We do this, stronger, thanks to the support of so many people throughout the world.
"Prayer is the most sublime expression of solidarity." Together we pray to God with the hope that soon in Haiti work will resume in a country that knows no respite from pain and tragedy. Let us pray that the darkness of suffering can give way to the light of hope; offering a new beginning for all.
Again my deepest thanks to you all. May God bless you and keep all of you in his love and his peace!
Fr. Jean Ralph Riccardy Pompée THEODAT

THANK YOU
The hall committee would like to take this opportunity to say ‘thank you’ for making the Christmas Fair an outstanding success. Your generosity made it possible to raise in excess of €11,000. Some of this has already been put to good use to mend water pipes that burst in the hall during the bad weather. The quality of the donations was excellent and saleable. For the first time in 3 years there was no need to hire a skip afterwards. A special thank you to the ticket sellers and to all who helped in any way.

Our collection last weekend raised a staggering €12,128.08. Thank you!! When counting this money someone commented “it would make you proud to be from the parish” – how true!! Your generosity was truly amazing.
As a result of this we were able to send €4,000 from the parish to Rome, which covered all of Jean’s college bills. He now has no worries but the completion of his studies, so that he may return home. We pray that this gift, through the work Jean will do, will continue to effect lives in Haiti for years and decades to come.
More immediately we were able to send – €8,128.08 directly to Haiti to assist with the relief work in this land truly devastated by the recent earthquake. May the Lord for whom all is possible bring great hope and a new beginning there.
Fr. Eamonn, Fr. Dermot & Chris

SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, January 17, 2010

Prayers of the Faithful
Every week a large amount of requests are often personally made in prayer, asking God for something, or indeed giving thanks for something received. This is done perhaps silently, maybe by lighting a candle, or even by asking a friend to pray for a particular petition.
The Prayers of the Faithful hold an important place in the context of the Sunday Mass. In many ways they give us the opportunity to bring our prayers and our needs right to the heart of our great Christian celebration.
In an effort to make this more real, and to make our Prayers reflect the real needs of our faith community; we are asking people to please write your personal petition, or thanksgiving on a piece of paper and place it in the boxes provided. These prayers will be remembered at all of our masses and some will be prayed aloud in a general way (that is to say without names etc..) at our Sunday Masses.
The Petitions can be filled out and placed the box in each of the churches in our parish.
May the good Lord listen to our prayers.

THE NATIVITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, December 25, 2009

Christmas Message 2009 - Signs of the Emmanuel
Emmanuel means ‘God is with us’. On reflection over the past year we have seen many aspects of the Emmanuel in the care and love of families and the community, through sharing and caring. God’s presence is tangible through these acts of reaching out and volunteerism in our community. Our community is very blessed to have so many people of different ages giving of their time, week in and week out, in the service of the community and the life of church activities. We would like to thank you one and all for your generosity and commitment throughout the past year.
For many there has been difficulty, stress and uncertainty in the economic climate that we have and are experiencing. There are those who have been bereaved or have had sickness trust upon them. Christmas is a time to reflect and to embrace the Christmas story. Much of the time in the Holy Family, in those early days and months, there was a sense of wonder and certainly fear. The fear was overcome by the presence of God and entrusting themselves to His ways and will. With the Christmas stories there are journeys, and we too join in those journeys. The shepherds were told about the birth of Jesus and they came to see the New Born King. The Wise Men from the East followed the star which settled over Bethlehem. May we, with listening hearts this Christmas, listen to the voice of God through the varying prophets, the scriptures, the sacraments and loving people in our midst. May we be led to the stable at Bethlehem and adore the King, whose birth we celebrate at the close of 2009. With every grace blessing and good wish this Christmas and for the New Year, 2010.
