Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 21, 2008

Christmas is a time for thinking about others - their kindness, care and love shared over 2008. As we approach the celebration of Christmas this year our thoughts are in a special way with all who have suffered, out of work, experienced sickness, bereaved throughout the past year.
In looking at the erected cribs in our three churches, I am reminded of the First Christmas and the Holy Family. It was a time of uncertainty for them with no room in the inn. They journeyed from Nazareth with no pre-booked hotel room. Mary was heavy with child and it was in Bethlehem that she gave birth, the Son of God became Man. There wasn’t the gloss of tinsel and major presents from the shepherds. The shepherds were there with the gift of themselves and glad to experience what happened on that first Christmas morning. The greatest gift we have is the gift of time, a time given in gentleness, love and concern.
May the infant Jesus bless you and your homes with the warmth of His presence. May you come together in his name and like the whole host of heaven and earth may you give praise and glory to Him who became man for you and me.
I thank you for your support throughout the past year and I wish you and yours every grace and blessing this Christmas and for the year 2009.
Fr. Eamonn
