I attended the First Communion last Saturday
In the Church of the Assumption ..Mooncoin;
The girls and the boys looked so lovely
All the parents.. so warm.. so divine.
Father Eamonn and Father Dermot
Were so proud of each and everyone;
They invited us all to the hall there
To join them in having some fun.
A neighbour’s child ran over to me
Saying..”thank you so much for the money”;
Not a word did she mention about my lovely card
Ah sure that’s all right. I said..honey!
The innocent way it came from her
Sent me back in time through the years;
To the time long ago..when I was a boy
I’ll stop now..the eyes moist with tears.
The florin and half-crown I cherished
The ten shilling note made me rich;
Then mother took over these large notes
Saying: I’ll keep these..and buy you a stitch.
The tenner has now replaced ‘the tanner’
Twenty euro..now that’s not a lot;
The next thing they take out is the digital
While I still use the pencil to tot.
Confirmation was held here last Sunday
Once again the church was packed out;
Keep up the faith now everybody
Sure on seeing you all..I’ve no doubt.
This crisis we’ll overcome together
Let’s stop being negative.. right now;
Be positive..my friends..in all that you do
What the hell do we gain from each row!
Just think of that First Communion girl
With that innocence spread over her face;
May the good lord look after each one of them

RETIREMENT FUNCTION
There will be a Retirement Function for Pat Duggan, Principal Mooncoin Boys’ School on Friday, June 25 at 8.00pm in the Parish Hall. All parishioners and former pupils over 18 year of age are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served.
2ND ANNUAL SLIEVENAMON WALK
The 2nd Annual Slievenamon Walk in aid of Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children Crumlin will take place on Sunday, May 30 departing the Village of Kilcash at 1 pm. Registration will take place at the
Community Hall from 12 noon to 1.00pm. The walk takes roughly a healthy an hour and a half to the top where you can enjoy a picnic and admire the beautiful views of the surrounding counties. The famous Liam McCarthy Cup will be revisiting Tipperary for the first time in years, so don your county colours, have your photograph taken as this is an opportunity not to be missed. The South East Mountain Rescue will kindly provide assistance in the unlikely event of an incident arising during the walk. Mooncoin Badminton ended its great year at a disco in the Parish Hall recently. Club awards were presented on the night. Player of the year 09/10 was John Fitzgerald and Special Merit Awards were presented to Eoin Dowling, Ellie Hogan, Megan Hewetson and Jack Cuddihy. Congratulations to all of them. The committee would like to thank its members, selectors, managers, the committee of the Sports Complex and anyone that helped the Club during the year, it was very much appreciated. Looking forward to seeing everyone again in September.

Catholic Schools: Envisioning a Future
At present the Church’s involvement in education is much debated. Should we be there at all? Have we anything to offer? What is distinctive about a Catholic School? And why would a parent choose to send their child to such a school? These, and questions like them, are not only timely but also important and they deserve our attention.
Therefore, on the evening of Friday, May 7 (7.30pm - 9.30pm) and the morning of Saturday, May 8 (10am - 12.30pm), at St. Patrick’s Parish Centre, Loughboy, Kilkenny, we will have the opportunity to explore and reflect on our involvement in education today. Can we offer positive reasons for our involvement in Education? Why not join us and take part in the discussion.

LISTENING SESSIONS
Bishop Freeman is initiating a series of Listening Sessions throughout the Diocese. These meetings will enable him to listen to what people are feeling about the Church in the aftermath of the Ryan and Murphy Reports. He writes "I am now asking the three Deanery Pastoral Councils to organise listening sessions that will give an opportunity to all the people of the Diocese to express their feelings and have them heard. This will be the beginning of a process of reflective speaking, listening and discernment that will, I hope, be very fruitful as we move forward"
All are welcome to attend these meetings. A facilitator will be present and a full report of each meeting will be recorded. Parishioners are invited to attend the venue for their parish, but are welcome to attend another gathering if the date, or venue is more convenient.
There will be ten meetings throughout the diocese and Bishop Freeman will attend all of these meetings. The dates and venues for the first six 'Listening Sessions' are as follows:

Life is a Journey
Life is a journey for us ordained
By our creator from heaven above
On a destined road and by him sustained
With fatherly care and abounding love
At times the journey has unwonted trends
Over terrains that are seemingly steep;
How pleasing it is when we’ve rounded the bends
And emerged from depths formidably deep.
Some carry great burdens along the way
Sickness, misfortune and crosses to bear;
Some are oppressed, some wander and stray
But obstacles all succumb to a prayer.
Be the journey short or road may be long
The Lord will call us, discounting our years
And welcome us back to where we belong
To a home without sorrow and tears.
Our forebears of old reached happy demise
And journeyed thank god with temporal ease;
Their beautiful souls found true paradise
With life Eternal and heavenly peace.
This is a journey we all have to make
While bearing in mind the end that shall be
Without any choice but one road to take
To travel upon to Eternity.
